Red Eye? Pink Eye? Itchy Eyes?
We can help…no referral necessary.
Did you wake up with a red eye? Is your eye suddenly painful, itchy or excessively sensitive to bright lights?
As doctors we always assess the health of your eyes as a routine part of our eye examinations and as a result we diagnose eye disease in 15% of the patients we see. Historically, all eye infections in BC had to be referred to in eye surgeon before an eye drop could be prescribed.
The scope of practice for optometrists in British Columbia now provides for the prompt treatment of an eye infection by the doctor who makes original diagnosis thereby eliminating the need for a redundant referral. The broader benefits include a reduced burden on family physicians, emergency rooms and busy eye surgeons without compromising public safety.
The doctors at this clinic are educated and clinically experienced in the prescribing of eye medications and will provide you with prompt diagnosis and treatment if you wake up with an eye infection. As always we would refer you to an eye surgeon if surgical care was necessary.
